Better Budget TO (BBTO) is a civic initiative made up of engaged city builders who believe a city’s budget is more than just numbers on a page. City budgets determine direction. They help us achieve the quality of life we want for our neighbours and ourselves. They make a good city great. We are non-partisan, volunteer driven and committed to making Toronto a model of open, democratic and evidence-based budgeting.
Better Budget TO was founded in 2012 by a core of young professionals with a conviction that collective, creative efforts can make Toronto a better place. To mount Better Budget Day, we partnered with The Wellesley Institute to facilitate conversations about how the budget process can better realize visions for a great Toronto.
We strive to bring together communities of diverse expertise: those knowledgeable about budgetary processes, those who are equipped to harness open data, and those who imagine and articulate a vision for a better city.
